We have inspected several food preparation areas during my time as a trainee PCO. We have come across several cockroach infestations.

The most common cockroaches that has been identified by me, through their colour and markings, has been the German (Blattella Germanica), Oriental (Blatta Orientalis), American Cockroaches (Periplaneta Americana) and the Brownbanded Cockroach (Supella Longipalpa). These infestations were then treated by myself in the following manner. We would use a pesticide with a good knock clown and flushing agent, with a long residual action, for example Super Crackdown, Tempo, Responsar, PCO Diazinon, Reskol 64.

Roach traps would also be placed in strategic places. Taking into consideration that food is prepared on the premises treatment was only done in a very well and controlled way which ensure that no food stuffs would have been contaminated. The treatment would then be followed up with placing of baits, for example Maxforce Gel, Goliath Gel and Blatenex Gel in strategic areas.

Absolute control has been reached in all of the premises that has been treated. When treatment is clone great careis taken with personal safety and also the safety off other persons. All the necessary protective equipment as per the label off the chemical used is worn. Empty containers are always disposed of in the prescribed manner. Triple rinse and destroyed at a site which is registered for the destruction of such items.

Rodent control has also been conducted on several occasions. The following items are used in the control or rodents. They are Glue board traps, mechanical traps, bait stations and rodent bait in the form off Finale Wax, liquid and paste and Racumin. The rat bars are also used to put out liquid. The species which We have dealt with is mainly the Norway Rat (Rattus norvegicus), Roof Rat (Rattus rattus) and the house mouse (Mus Musculus). These rodents are easily identified by myself through their distinctive characteristic.

Health pests (Vectors and Parasites) like fleas, mosquitoes, flies, ticks, bed bugs, lice have all been controlled with very good results.

We have used several types of pesticides for example: Fendona; Super Crackdown, Tempo Sc, KO Gard; Staricide (IGR); K-Othrin EC 15; Dursban; Premise Sc 200; Cypermetrine; Responsar EW; Termidor EC 25; Neopybuthrin Misting and Fogging Solution; Quickphos tablets. When these pesticides are used all off the warning labels are strictly adhered to.

Nuisance pests like ants, birds, reptiles and bats has also been controlled, with very good results.

The following equipment has been used by myself in the application of different pesticides. They are the Gloria hand sprayers, Knapsack sprayers, Dusters, Hot fogging machines, Cockroach gel applicators, Misting machines.
